“If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.” — Dalai Lama

[dropcap style=”font-size: 60px; color:#8c2626;”] E [/dropcap]specially in light of the current tragedy unfolding in Japan, I am reminded of the earthquake that hit Haiti over a year ago now. It is hard to think that a place will ever be the same after something so monumental occurs, but with hope and resiliency of the human spirit we prove that we are stronger than our circumstances.

Last year we held a fundraising event for the Earthship organization’s trip to Haiti. I was overwhelmed and personally touched with the generosity of everyone that participated. Your good works were not in vain.  Earlier this year, the Earthship went back to Haiti and built another permanent structure that served as a teaching model for the Haitian crew and will eventually be a permanent place of residence. This structure included it’s own sewage and water reclamation system, a solar panel, and ability to grow food within the water filtration system. This is a step up from the basic structure built last year and a step towards building a better future for the people of Haiti.
